Living 8 months in Sweden ━ So much has happened

Image
Hej everyone!  How is everyone doing? I didn't realize it's already been a few months since I last wrote on my blog. I guess I've been really busy in the last few months. In fact, I developed something new! In my last blog post, I mentioned I was working on something. I've been advertising for a bit, but now I can announce it official: I've started my own business called Eileen vd Steen Designs ! You've probably also noticed that Imagine Eileen also has a new look. That's because I decided to link my paid subscription to my business, since this blog is meant more for hobby purposes. I already had the honor to work with one client, hopefully there are more to go! They say the first year is always the hardest when you're just starting out. I haven't found any new clients yet, but it's important to just keep going. And start building the foundation of course. I must say that I have so much appreciation for entrepreneurs now. There is so much involve...

Hej everyone! Wow it's been already 1,5 months since my last post. It wasn't my intention to take this long to write a blog again, my apologies for that! Time flies when you're busy but also enjoying life. A lot has happend in november, so I'll tell you all about it. Autumn didn't last for a very long time since we arrived back in Sweden. The nights got frosty and we had light snowfall for a few times. But on the 1st of november the snow stayed on the ground for the first time. This immediately changed the whole world into a winter wonderland. The days are also getting darker soon. Right now the sun rises at 9:00 and sets at 14:45. So we only have sunlight for 5 hours and 45 minutes. Sometimes I feel the need to prepare dinner, while it's only just 15:00! But I heard I'm not the only one. It takes some getting used to as it gets dark quickly, but it also has something cozy! But the day after that the snow was already melting. It's normal in october/novem...

In memory and loss

Image
Hej everyone, It's been a while again since my latest post. I promised myself I would write more, but some unforeseen circumstances took place in our life. Almost three weeks ago we received a heartbreaking message from home. Tanno's grandpa had suffered a stroke and he wouldn't recover anymore. This hit us pretty hard, especially Tanno and his family. A week later he passed away peacefully. Tanno and I booked a flight back to the Netherlands to be with family and attend the funeral. The week we spend in the Netherlands was emotional and very busy. A lot of things happened to me that week. I actually had a really hard time in the Netherlands. Living in the north of Sweden has changed me. I'm surrounded by nature, the quiet and felt more creative than ever. I could finally breathe and just be myself. The moment I stepped foot again in the Netherlands, that feeling disappeared. I was surrounded by rushing people, crowds and so many sounds. I was instantly over...

Whispers and changes of autumn

Image
"And when the first breezes of autumn touched my skin, my soul awakened once again and broke free." As the end of September approaches, the autumn has really settled in. Everywhere we go, everywhere we look, we are greeted by lush and warm colours. There is a warm and golden hue over the woods when the sun shines. And this hue changes to blue and moody when it storms. Every other morning the valley is covered in this spooky fog. The days are also getting shorter. Right now the sun sets at 19:17! Honestly I feel so alive in this time of the year. I'm so fond of autumn and the cosy feeling the last 6 months of the year. It makes me feel all the more witchy! 🧙‍♀️✨ The temperatures drop below zero now in the nights which leaves everything in a layer of frost. It's unimaginable how fast the temperature has dropped here. Really different than in the Netherlands! Today we were having breakfast with delicious homebaked bread from Offerdal's Hembageri when we noticed that...

A misty evening and a break for passion

Image
You can feel the shift in the air. It rains more frequently, the wind is howling and the valley is covered in mists. A few days ago we had a whole day of mist(!). Autumn is really here! The mist went away for a few hours, but while we were eating supper, the mist formed again over the lake. I thought: This is the perfect time to take some pictures! I actually wanted to do a photoshoot, but I was taking pictures of nature instead. It was still pleasantly warm outside, but at the same time mystical. As you can see on the photo, the sky turned this rosy/blue color and it stayed a long time like this. I love it when the skies look like this. It's a whole different lighting when twilight arrives. The rocks by the lake also turned into a different color. As the evening progressed, the mist became more thick. And soon It'd looked like I was in a autumn horror movie. A short blog! But I wanted to share these pictures with you. It's just one more week until Tanno starts working. I...

Good news, job hunting and settling down

Hello everyone! It's now around 9 PM and I got myself a nice fruity treat with apple, plum and grapes. As I am writing this now, I'm nearly finished with my treat. Such a shame, I like fruit so much that I tend to eat so fast. On the last day of my parents' visit, Tanno and me had a little surprise in our mailbox. After four weeks of waiting, we already received our person number! We didn't see this coming at all, because we thought it was going to take around 2 to 6 months. We've heard stories from our neighbours and other acquaintances that it took really long for them, so we assumed that we had to wait for a long time. We are very lucky that we received our person number so fast. Now we can start arranging the rest like our identification, bank account, insurances and most importantly, Tanno can start working soon! We've been here for around 1 and a half month now, so how's Swedish life treating us? I think we are getting quite used to our life here. At f...

A hike to Hällberget

Image
Today we went for a hike to the Toppstugan Hällberget. This was our second attempt to hike to this place. The first time I regularly stopped to take pictures of the mushrooms and the forest. I took really nice pictures, but because of that, it took a while for me to get back on track. At one point we decided to turn around and try it the next time. Today was the next time. The hike is 3 kilometers long and quite a climb. It's quite an intense workout and to be honest, I'm not in good shape. I had to take a lot of breaks, but I could manage it. We arrived at the spot where we turned around really fast and at that time we thought we were nearly there. Turns out we weren't nearly there. But there were many blueberries on the side of the path. If we needed an extra boost of strength, we plucked some blueberries. So after walking, lots of stepping over things and more climbing, we arrived at the Toppstugan and the view was breathtaking! The climb down afterwards was really toug...
