And then the time has come: we were really moving to Sweden! The last few weeks we were really busy with packing stuff, arranging the last few things, a few last-minute things, discovering we had more stuff than we thought and more. A few days before departure we deregistered from our municipality in Apeldoorn and then we were homeless. Just kidding!
In the meantime, we bought a really good photo camera. It has been a dream to buy a photo camera for so long and now we really have one! I feel a little spark in my creativity, I already have so many ideas! But that will come in time when we are more settled. For now, I will list some pictures of my cat Chanel and flowers from my old garden below here.
In the early morning of the 21th of July we started our 22-hour car drive to the North of Sweden. We crossed Germany, took the ferry from Germany to Denmark, rode the big bridge to Sweden and then drove many hours into Sweden.
And then we arrived in our new home. It feels so good if you drove for so many hours. We were quite tired and almost when instantly to sleep in our new home. Since our stuff wouldn't arrive until two days later, we slept on a camping mattress in our bedroom. It does feel strange to sleep in an empty house. There is something about sleeping in a hollow home in an unknown environment. The empty house and having to get used to a new environment honestly gave me some anxiety. During the next day we went to Östersund to apply for our person number and discovered the city. But when we came back to our new place, I felt a bit uncomfortable again. I think the combination of the empty home, new environment and having no more safe routines is what gave me the most anxiety. However, that's part of moving to a new country. It's temporary of course. So, when our stuff arrived two days later, the feeling of anxiety ebbed away and made place for something new.
It made place for excitement once again.
We have unpacked a lot already, but there are still some boxes left. Tomorrow we are going to Ikea and other furniture stores to buy new furniture. Until then, this story is yet to be continued.
Love, Eileen
